Prof. dr. ir. Joeri Van Mierlo will give a lecture during the opening ceremony of the ELaadNL Testplein, a new testing park for the charging infrastructure of electric vehicles. Other speakers are Chelsea Sexton, Ruud Koornstra and Annemarie Jorritsma. Several Dutch officials are invited to inaugurate the new testing park: Stientje van Veldhoven (Staatssecretaris van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat), Jan Jacob van Dijk (Gedeputeerde van provincie Gelderland), Geert Ritsema (Wethouder van gemeente Arnhem).
ELaadNL is a Dutch organisation that researches and tests all aspects of Smart Charing: “Through their mutual involvement via ElaadNL, the grid operators (Coteq, Enexis, Liander, Rendo, Stedin, Tennet and Westland Infra) acquire an overview of the measures to be taken to ensure that the network remains reliable and affordable.”
‘The Testplein is located in the woods of business park Arnhems Buiten and contains all types of charging stations that are currently publicly available in the Netherlands, including a fast charger and lamp post charging. Moreover, the park is set up in order to carry out unique tests and research. For example, new EV models can be tested on their interaction with all different types of charging stations available throughout the Netherlands, before they come on our roads on a large scale. Grid operators see what a car (actually a battery on wheels) does with the power quality. In addition, tests are being done with Smart Charging: controlling the car to charge less or more at certain times, for example: because extra power from the sun or wind is available or because an overload of the local electricity grid can occur.’
The ELaadNL TestPlein is supported by the INVADE H2020 project (EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme EU, grant agreement No 731148).
