The candidate will conduct ground-breaking research, initiate research projects and write academic papers. She/he will demonstrate an innovative and high-profile research program that maximizes synergy and complementarity within the research area described above. In particular, the candidate should have a good understanding of energy-efficient drives and innovative power converters.
The research program should show synergies with the current activities of the department of Electric Engineering and Energy Technology (http://etec.vub.ac.be/), the research center MOBI (http://mobi.vub.ac.be/home/), and the Electrical Energy unit of BEAMS (http://beams.ulb.ac.be/research-units/electrical-energy).
The candidate should also demonstrate her/his capacity to secure the required funding for basic and industrial research. The following additional points are considered as added value:
- Experience in managing projects
- Experience with or within industry
The position also includes the supervision of MSc theses and PhD theses.
Teaching is conducted in Dutch and English. The successful candidate will teach in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (in Dutch) and Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering (in English, www.bruface.eu) in the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering
- Power Electronics
- Measurement Techniques
- Control Techniques
- Electric Traction
- Electrical Drives

As a formal minimum requirement, applicants must hold a PhD in Engineering Sciences (or equivalent) awarded on the basis of an original thesis.

Every first appointment is dependent upon the successful delivery of a teaching session.
Members of academic faculty with teaching duties are required to prove their command of the teaching language. E.g.: for teaching in English the candidate provides evidence of proficiency in English at C1 level by submitting a language certificate (or a waiver).

Length of contract: Recruitment in the rank of lecturer is a tenure track appointment which implies an initial appointment as lecturer for a period of 5 years with eligibility for tenure in the rank of senior lecturer by the end of this initial period. Recruitment in other academic ranks is an initial appointment for 3 years with eligibility for tenure in the same rank by the end of this initial period.
